Card Counting is Illegal

You may have seen in the movies, how our protagonist goes to the casino, uses card counting technique, and wins a boatload of money. As a result, they only get thrown out of the casino and have police chase them.

This is sure to give anybody watching the idea that card counting and winning are illegal in casinos.

Well, it has two parts. Allow me to explain.

Nobody can regulate what’s in your head. There cannot and should not be any rule about what you can and cannot think. The human brain will naturally think about the things it’s engaging in currently. As a result, blackjack players brain is sure to think about Blackjack.

People can use the card counting technique and win. This is controversial only due to the fact that houses tend to lose money when that happens. So, they have spun up this narrative that card counting is illegal. It’s not illegal, you won’t be thrown into jail for counting cards but you might be thrown out of the casino for doing so.

A win is due after consecutive losses

This is another myth that many blackjack players subscribe to. The popular belief is that you are due for a win after you lose many hands.

However, the present hand in Blackjack doesn’t depend on the previous hands. The current hand doesn’t know that you are losing 10 consecutive times.

Nevertheless, players think this way and go on to lose some more money, thinking that their luck is just around the corner.

A good rule of thumb in gambling is that you sit to gamble with a fixed amount of money that you are willing to lose. If you win, Congratulations, but if you lose, you will only lose that fixed amount which you were comfortable losing in the first place.

Good at Mathematics, Win more at Blackjack

This is another myth that is propagated far and wide. Yes, Blackjack is a game where there is math involved. However, the rules of the games are pretty easy. Anybody can learn it from a 7-minute YouTube tutorial.

The elementary Blackjack strategy tends to go very far as well.

So, No! Being great at Mathematics does have its perks, but when it comes to Blackjack, they are in pretty much the same boat as the rest of us.

Dealer has a 10 in the hole

Let’s get into this Blackjack strategy. There are many tutorials online that advise beginners to always think that the dealer has a 10 in the hole.

Well, full disclosure, dealers do have 10 in the hole, but only sometimes. When it comes to odds, the dealer has 3 in 10 chances they have 10 -cards in the hole.

This means, 7 out of 10 chances, they do not.

This tip does have its merit but I wouldn’t take 3 out of 10 over 7 out of 10.

So, what is the best way to know what’s in the hole?

The answer is you don’t. It all anybody’s guess and this is why they call it gambling.

Always Accept Even Money Proposition

This, also known as an insurance bet is what the house offers the player when the dealer is showing an ace card.

The insurance bet is what you take when you think that you are about to have a bad hand.

About 95% of the players take the insurance. The insurance bet pays 2 to 1.

However, the chances that the dealer has Blackjack is just 31% compared to the chances that the dealer doesn’t have Blackjack of 69%. So, when you take the insurance bet, you increase the house odds.

Think about it this way, if it was really beneficial to you, casinos won’t go out of their way to provide you with an insurance bet.

These were the top five Blackjack myths that we have hopefully debunked.
